Many children on the streets are school drop-outs while others have never attended school at all. Poverty, parent/guardian deaths and family disagrements have been the highest cause of school drop-outs and hence joining he streets.

With support from our partners and sponsors like you, CRO ensures that every child who succesfully completes the rehabilitation class gets the opportunity to go to school because  we share the vision that it is through education that young people can break the cycle of poverty and live a hopeful future. 

We believe that providing education to street children will enable them to live independently, assist their families, and contribute to their communities' development. 

Our Approach:

Formal education 

After completing the rehabilitation program, the children are enrolled in formal primary schools. Tuition expenses and uniforms are provided to the students in order for them to attend school. Parents(if possible) are advised to supply their children with basic necessities such as food, exercise books, pens, and pencils.

CRO supports children at Primary(P1 -P7) , Secondary(Form1 -Form 6) and Tertiary( Certificate, Diploma and Degree) level.

The Ugandan School system starts with Primary School (lasting 7 years),then Secondary School for O'Level[4 years] and A'Level[2 years] (lasting 6 years).

All students/pupils are provided with tuition fees, learning materials and uniforms in so that they can attend school. Parents/guardians are also encouraged to contribute some scholastic materials e.g. books, pens etc. where possible.

On completion of O'Level, the students have the opportunity to go for Vocational Training  or continue with A'Level and then join a Tertiary Institution. The Ugandan school year consists of three terms, which all require payment of school fees.

Informal Vocational Training. 

Older street children who cannot attend formal school are encouraged to train in different skills of their choice. These youths are linked with skilled workmen in the community who train them hands-on while at their places of work.

Currently various children are training in skills such as Hair dressing, carpentry, Mechanics, Catering, Cobbling, Barbering, tailoring and garment design,metal fabrication and building and construction.. CRO pays for training fees and tools. Start up tools are provided at the end of every training.

Formal Vocational Training. 

CRO children who complete primary seven and senior four but do not qualify to join the next class, are encouraged  to join formal vocational training institutes in order to acquire professional skills and certificates.

 The trainees are supported by CRO and partners with training costs and materials. Trainees who finish the program are given startup tool sets to assist them in starting their own enterprises or finding work.

For all categories of education,regular school monitoring visits to check on the progress of the students are done to ensure that our children acquire the necessary skills to support their self dependency in the furture..
